For a couple of days, I kept wondering what should my first post be about? My favourite destination? A bucket list with the places I want to travel to? And then I realized that first of all, I should tell you how we like to travel, so that you know what to expect to read here.
As both Bogdan and I have day jobs, we do not have so much time to travel, as we would like to. But we want to see as many new places and things as possible, so when we have a couple of days off, we like to make the most of them. As we want to see a lot of places in a short time, we must be extremely organized and make our itinerary before we leave home, so we won’t have to worry about where we should go next, after we hit the road.
Make the most of our time
Our normal travel day begins at about 6-7 a.m. and finishes around 9-10 p.m. You can imagine that after a trip like this, we come home more tired than we left, but with so much more energy and cheerfulness! When we are in a new city, we like to walk a lot, get lost on the streets of it and feel its vibe. Beside visiting cities, we enjoy taking road trips and adventuring in the nature. We also visit the most important tourist attractions, but only if we feel connected with them. For example, we are not the greatest museum lovers, so we only visit the museums that interest us and from where we think we can learn something.
Neither of us likes to go in clubs or other places in the night, so don’t expect to read about the night life of any city. We also don’t eat very often in restaurants when we travel, as it takes too much time and we prefer to spend as much as we can, exploring the places we are in. Going to the beach is also not usually on our travel itinerary. We like the sea, but we consider that in this period of our lives, it is more interesting to explore, then to just lie multiple days in the sun.
Please don’t get me wrong. We don’t think it is not ok to go clubbing while you travel, or visit all the museums from a city, or simply go on a trip to relax and lie all day on a sunbed, but we simply don’t consider these to be our number one priority while traveling.
It would be ideal to have all the time in the world to stay a couple of days in every place and take at least one week for every city to really get to know it, but unfortunately not everyone can do this, so as time is limited, we should make it count by visiting only the places we want and know we will enjoy.
This life is not about what others think you should do, so when you decide you want to go on a trip, don’t pick a place just because all your friends go there, or because it is the destination of the year, but because you feel that in that place you can be happy and that you will come back spiritually richer, wiser and with memories that will last for a lifetime.
I have to admit that we haven’t based our travels always on this principle, but after visiting some attractions and coming back disappointed and with the feeling that we could have better invested our time and money, we realized that traveling should be about making you happy and not about checking attractions and places on somebody else’s travel list.
